“Jinkies gang”

September 15, 2009

My three children, like their father before them, are big fans of the Scooby-Doo franchise. Every morning while they eat breakfast and wait for the school bus to arrive, they sit at the table and watch reruns of late 60s / early 70s episodes (and they know all the words to the opening song too). Like them, I used to watch Scooby and the gang with visions of becoming a mystery solver when I grew up. To some degree, I guess that’s what I spend my days doing, as do others who are involved in writing about and discussing Christian origins and the nature of the different Jesus-sayings traditions. It’s a little disappointing to realize that we have (by comparison) an astonishingly low rate of mystery-solving success. Perhaps a Scooby snack will provide the sustenance I need for today (or at least some breakfast, I’m starving).
